To the residents of Lincoln County:
At the last County Commissioners meeting I was asked to collect comments from those Lincoln County residents who wish to make suggestions on areas where the Lincoln County Animal Ordinance 2008-08 might be updated.
The ordinance is on the Lincoln County Website, www.lincolncountynm.net/ord.htm. If you would like to comment on the Animal Ordinance, please look at the ordinance online or get a copy from the county manager’s office and read it. I will be gathering these comments at two meetings open to the public.
The first meeting, to be held on Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in the Lincoln County Commissioners Meeting Room in Carrizozo, will be taking comments from the animal groups in Lincoln County. The public is welcome to attend and hear the views of these groups concerning what they feel might be needed to update the ordinance.
General public comments will not be taken at this meeting. But the public can come and listen to what these groups feel need to be addressed in the ordinance that affects the work they do.
On Nov. 16 at 9 a.m. in the Lincoln County Commissioners Meeting Room in Carrizozo, I will be holding another meeting on the animal ordinance to take comments from the general public. Please put your comments in writing, along with the section of the ordinance they address, which will be turned in to the county commissioners along with a written general overview of all the comments made. You will be able to state them at the meeting.
I am looking for comments directly concerning the animal control ordinance. Please to not include any comments about specific people or incidents. This committee is to bring to the attention of the commissioners areas of the animal ordinance that are not working and need to be updated to protect both the citizens and animals where this ordinance is in effect. If you like the animal ordinance the way it is please let them know – if you feel changes need to be made please let them know.
I am a member of Miracle’s Paws For Pets, a local rescue group; however, I am doing this as an individual. Working with animals that are picked up, both locally, in Carrizozo, and in the unincorporated areas of Lincoln County, I have seen areas of the Lincoln County Animal Ordinance that just are not working. I have had people telling me of situations that are not addressed in the ordinance.
The opportunity has come up to bring these to the attention of the county commissioners. The county commissioners have agreed to look at suggestions from the residents of Lincoln County, have not said that they would change the ordinance, but are willing to consider the possibility of doing so.
Now is the time to let them hear your ideas and suggestions. Please take advantage of it in a nice polite way by addressing your comments to the ordinance alone.
I can be contacted by phone at 575-648-2037. I am looking forward to seeing you at the meetings. Remember to put your comments in writing so we can include them in the final report
