The ENMU-Roswell Foundation has awarded $3500 in scholarships to students enrolled in the Occupational Safety Engineering and Environmental Management Technologies program this spring semester. Scholarships for $1000 from New Mexico Mutual were awarded to Kathryn Webb and Christopher O’Berry. New Mexico Mutual scholarships for $500 each were awarded to David Capps and Martin Petsonk. New Mexico Mutual established a scholarship program at ENMU-Roswell in 2008. Kathryn Webb and Christopher O’Berry also each received $250 scholarships from the Pecos Valley Section of American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). The scholarships are administered through the ENMU-Roswell Foundation.
Michael O’Berry, Occupational Safety Engineering and Environmental Management Technologies instructor, said he appreciates the ongoing support of organizations like New Mexico Mutual and ASSE in assisting students who would otherwise not be able to continue their education. Occupational Safety Engineering and Environmental Management Technology is growing profession with a bright future ahead for graduating students in private, public, alternative energy, and green career fields. Recent surveys indicate that persons trained in all aspects of occupational safety and environmental management including hazard identification, accident investigation, and regulatory compliance will be in demand for many years to come.
