Hatch, New Mexico (January 31, 2010) - - Sparky’s Burgers, Barbeque and Espresso (www.sparkysburgers.com), Hatch’s iconic - and nationally recognized – restaurant, will be the subject of a public hearing and vote by village trustees Tuesday, February 9th, over the fate of its giant pink fiberglass pig.
The pig is just one of several giant statues that surround or advertise near the restaurant, and was subject to a recent ban from city limits by town trustees concerned the pig was bad for the overall public image of the community.
Among the giant statues at Sparky’s is a life-size replica of Ronald McDonald, a pair of forgotten mascots of old A-and-W restaurants, and even an enormous Uncle Sam, measuring two-and-a-half stories tall.
The restaurant’s collection has been profiled in the New York Times, the December 2009 issue of Motor Trend magazine and the popular website: www.roadsideamerica.com
The hearing – and scheduled vote after public input – will be held Tuesday, February 9th begins at 5:30 pm at the Hatch Village Clerk’s Office on 133 Franklin St.
