RUIDOSO — Help End Abuse for Life recently launched its annual “a la Heart” campaign with the release of the HEAL a la Heart signature spaghetti sauce and cookbook. Along with the launching came a very big problem for the local nonprofit that runs the Nest domestic violence shelter.
Once the local sauce taste-testing was completed and sauce selected, HEAL was faced with a storage issue. Seven pallets containing 450 cases HEAL of a la Heart spaghetti sauce would soon to be dropped at the doorsteps of the shelter.
After much scrambling by the HEAL board of directors in trying to locate a heated area to store the sauce, Ace Hardware business owners Marty Martell and Casteel Martell came to the rescue by offering to keep the pallets of sauce in their storage building adjacent to the shelter.
Ace Hardware employees Donald Sgambato and Rex Thompson assisted in unloading the pallets of HEAL a la Heart spaghetti sauce into the Ace warehouse.
DeeDee Lamb, administrative assistant at HEAL, expressed the organization’s appreciation.
“Ace Hardware provided the perfect solution and a perfect location!” she said. “We are deeply grateful to Ace for their generosity.”
The Nest domestic violence shelter is located at 512 East Highway 70 in Ruidoso Downs. All free and confidential services can be obtained by calling 378-6378 or toll free at 866-378-6378.
