The public is invited to attend “Let Freedom Ring,” a rousing salute to America’s veterans, presented by the Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church and the Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell Community Chorale, on Sunday, November 8, at 3:00 PM, at the First United Methodist Church, 200 N. Pennsylvania.

Musical numbers by the combined choirs, under the direction of John Fuss and accompanied by Michelle Olson, include “I Hear America Singing,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “From Sea to Shining Sea,” “Bring Him Home,” and a toe-tapping “Tribute to the Armed Services,” during which all veterans will be recognized for their service to our country. In addition to the choirs, The Enchanters, a women’s barbershop chorus, will perform “God Bless America” and “This Land Is My Land,” and Tom Blake will sing a stirring rendition of “God Bless the USA.” The Kaler Handbell Choir will ring a delightful medley of well-known and well-loved songs composed by George M. Cohan.

Written by Bettie Lou Cheney and narrated by John Correia, the program will feature a tribute to the Navajo Code Talkers of World War II, the history of the Marine Hymn, the history of the POW/MIA Flag, and a reading of the poem “American Names” by Stephen Vincent Benet. Presenters include Mayor Sam LaGrone, Rick Kraft, City Councilor Judy Stubbs, John Markham, Major General Jerry Grizzle, the NMMI Color Guard, Captain Oscar Gonzalez, and Boy Scout Troop #2.

A reception will be held following the program. For additional information, contact John Fuss 622-1881 or e-mail music@dfn.com.
