The David Westphall Veterans Foundation continues to raise money to support the Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park. This is the only state park in New Mexico that does not charge admission. This was specified in the agreement transferring the memorial from the foundation to the state parks system.
The money goes to support Veterans healing programs. As a part of this effort the foundation is sponsoring a haircutting fundraiser in Albuquerque on Aug. 16. Advance sale tickets are $8.
As we know, Albuquerque is a long way for people from Angel Fire to drive for a haircut so we are offering an incentive to purchase one or more tickets. A winning ticket will be drawn for either a golf or ski package donated by the Angel Fire Resort. It can be used by the winner or family or friends. Please stop by Chuck Hasford's office behind Bank of America or call me at 377-1393 for tickets.
I also understand that not everyone knows membership in the foundation is open to the public for a membership fee of $30 per year.
Additionally, memorial bricks are available for $75 for anyone who has served in the active duty military, National Guard or the Reserves. The bricks are laid in a memorial walk of honor each fall by the Run for The Wall motorcycles riders who came to Angel Fire for an annual reunion. The brick laying ceremony will be held Sept. 5 starting approximately 9:30 a.m. this year. Please contact the foundation office at 377-6900 for additional information and access to forms. Orders need to be made soon to provide time to engrave the bricks.
Finally, the Visitor's Center has been closed for extensive renovation. It will reopen in the spring. The Chapel and grounds remain open. Please continue to visit and support veterans education and healing activities in whatever way you can.
