Columnist David Talbot is a retired insurance executive and former Vietnam helicopter pilot who currently resides in Mesa, Ariz.
Talbot owned David Talbot Associates, a general agency offering life, health and disability insurance products to businesses and individuals from 1972-87. Also, during 1981-87, he owned Investment Advisory Services, which offered investment advice and investment services.
From 1987-96, Talbot held management positions with a variety of ins
urance companies, including service as regional director, regional vice president, assistant vice president (marketing) and vice president (marketing).
He retired in 1996.
Talbot served on active duty in the Army from 1965-71, and as an officer in the Arizona Army National Guard in 1971-75 and later in 1983-87.
While on active duty, he served two combat tours in South Vietnam — as a medical evacuation pilot in 1967-68, and as a helicopter lift company operations officer and as a medical evacuation helicopter company operations officer in 1970-71.
Talbot is recipient of 3 awards of the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal, 33 awards of the Air Medal, 2 awards of the Army Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
