It will be a busy week on the NMMI campus beginning Monday, as the New Mexico Military Institute football skills camp gets underway for middle and elementary schools Monday, while the week wraps up with the Bronco 7-on-7 tournament, this year expected to bring in more than 30 teams from New Mexico and Texas.

The skills camp is specifically designed for players looking to improve their skills, and will focus on specialized instruction for players at every position from NMMI coaches. Each day will end with a series of games that provide the athletes an opportunity to test their skills against one another.
The camp, which will run from 8:30-11 a.m. July 5-8, is designed for boys or girls in grades 1 through 8. Camp registration is $45 by mail and $50 walkup. Registration will be in front of the Cahoon Armory at 8 a.m. July 5.
Friday, 30 or more high school teams are expected to compete in the 7-on-7 tournament, hoping to hone their skills for the upcoming season.
Last year, with 27 teams in attendance, the Montwood Rams from El Paso, Texas, took the large-school title with a perfect 10-0 record. The Clovis “A” squad were runners up.
The Valencia Vikings took the title in Division 2, with Lovington in second, while the Clovis “B” team outlasted Fort Sumner in Division 3.
